Tavira, Santa Luzia, Evora, Cabo da Roca, Sintra, Lisbon
I’m going to race through the rest of our Portugal trip because I’m very behind and who knew travelling like this could be so incredibly busy!!
After Porto we pick up a hire car and drive to the southern end of the country, the Algarve region. Known for its golden beaches, cliffs and caves and party towns, we head to the quieter locales of Tavira and Santa Luzia, a mere 40km from the border with Spain.
Our accommodation here comes with a rooftop complete with stunning views and sunsets…
A local beach has an anchor graveyard…
The cliffs, caves and beaches are, indeed, stunning…
On our way to next stop, Sintra, we check out the bone chapel in Evora, a spooky, architectural reminder of the transience of life and that all of us will die (true but intense!)…
We also stop by Cabo da Roca, the most westerly point on the continent…
In Sintra, I’m particularly taken with the Peña Palace and Moorish Castle…
Our final stop in Portugal is Lisbon and I’m pretty touristed-out by this point so I switch to a more vague wandering style of tourism. I’m also delighted to find a school friend (Connie!) happens to be in town, and we share drinks and a fabulous dinner at a rooftop bar and restaurant…
